Thorn (Colleen Marie Foley & Erin Ethridge)
Creature of Us is a performative installation in which collaborative duo Thorn constructs a tentacular hybrid body and imagines its process of learning to speak. Resonant chambers inspired by orifices, shells, and plant forms linked through natural latex tubing form a connective tissue where the artists combine their voices with those of participants. Acting as mothers and caretakers, Thorn activates the installation intermittently by assembling iterations of the creature’s body, watching over it as it evolves, and journeying with it down 14th Street.

Thorn is the composite identity of artists Erin Ethridge and Colleen Marie Foley. Working together since 2015, Thorn navigates the boundaries that shape relationships in search of places they soften and shift. They combine their skills in fabrication and electronic media to make performances, installation, video, and wearable objects.
