Cynthia Reynolds
Foam Booth, a room divider frame recovered with found packing materials, was originally presented as part of a ballet, on a stage with an audience. Now it returns to the site from which it came. I am obsessed with used packaging I find on the sidewalk, and work exclusively with what I encounter by chance. No longer abandoned on the ground, the foam and air pillows enclose a refuge in a very public space. What shows through depends on the light and the movements of those inside and outside the booth; everyone can decide how much or how little privacy they want to enjoy or invade, including me.

Cynthia Reynolds is a Kentucky-born, NYC-based artist. Recent highlights include a collaboration on a ballet for Norte Maar’s CounterPointe 12 and a residency at the Potato Farm Project. A poem she wrote in response to her performance for Art in Odd Places 2024: CARE was published in No, Dear. She is a 2026 NYSCA Support for Artists grantee.
