Elizabeth Velazquez
Germinating Futures is an intervention that creates a site for care and resistance with a seed library and herbal aid station. Made from a repurposed shopping cart, sourcing seeds and herbs from the artist’s garden, the cart becomes a space of respite. On the cart, the public makes seed saving envelopes, gets free seeds and samples herbal aids that promote relief. Through conversations that center plants and wellness, passersby will also use paper to leave a response to the question: What do I wish to grow? Intending to motivate and support action, the project invites collective imagining to create futures of abundance and food sovereignty.

Elizabeth Velazquez es jibara de las montañas de nueva york- aka, born and raised at the foot of the Catskill Mountains in New York during the hotel business boom. She is of Puerto Rican and Peruvian descent and creates interdisciplinary work. Velazquez currently resides in Queens, NY where she tends a garden that she dreams will provide for many.
