Tezcatl: Obsidian Meditations is a collective durational performance walking backwards with obsidian mirrors. According to an Aztec conception of temporality, the future is behind us, since it remains unseen and imperceptible, whereas the past is in front of us as what is visible and already known. The obsidian mirror was used as a tool of divination, since its dark polished surface shows you the future reflected behind you. A group of performers holding obsidian mirrors and walking into the future, and slowly navigating the city lanscape through the reflection. There will be a workshop open to the public to participate in the performance prior to the festival.

About the Artist(s)
Emilio Rojas is a multidisciplinary Mexican artist working primarily with the body in performance. He utilizes his body in a political and critical way, as an instrument to unearth removed traumas, embodied forms of decolonization, migration, and poetics of space. His research-based practice is heavily influenced by queer and feminist archives, border politics, botanical colonialism, and defaced monuments.
